Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which rose 8.71% or 5.42 points to trade at 67.65 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) added 8.32% or 4.74 points to end at 61.74 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) was up 6.95% or 1.15 points to 17.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL), which lost 9.08% or 1.31 points to trade at 13.12 in late trade. Storagevault Canada Inc (TSX:SVI) declined 6.11% or 0.31 points to end at 4.76 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) shed 4.37% or 0.11 points to 2.41.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 482 to 470 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.64% to 14.24.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.24% or 5.65 to $2,344.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.20% or 0.99 to hit $83.80 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 1.24 to trade at $89.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 105.43.
